Katy Perry is looking back on the difficult period surrounding her separation from Orlando Bloom.
More than a year after the former couple ended their engagement, the singer has spoken candidly about what she was experiencing as their nearly decade-long relationship came to an end. The breakup unfolded while Perry was in the middle of her Lifetimes Tour, leaving her to manage a major personal change as she continued performing for audiences around the world.

Remembering where she had been a year earlier, Perry said she was in Adelaide, Australia, when the emotional weight of the separation became particularly intense. She recalled crying and trying to process several pressures at once, both in her private life and in the public eye.
The timing made the situation even more demanding. Touring required Perry to travel constantly, maintain a demanding performance schedule and spend long stretches away from much of her usual support system. At the same time, she was dealing with the end of a relationship that had been an important part of her life for years.
Perry and Bloom first began dating in 2016. After briefly separating the following year, they reunited and became engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. In August 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove.

Their representatives confirmed the separation in July 2025, explaining that the two had been adjusting their relationship for several months so they could concentrate on co-parenting. The statement made clear that they expected to continue spending time together as a family and that raising Daisy with stability, love and mutual respect remained their priority.
Although Perry has now described how painful the breakup was for her, neither she nor Bloom has publicly presented the separation as hostile. When Bloom later addressed the split, he spoke with gratitude about the life they had built and expressed confidence about their future as a family. He also emphasized the love they share for Daisy and indicated that there was no bitterness between him and Perry.
Perry’s latest comments offer a clearer picture of what that transition felt like behind the scenes. From the outside, she was continuing with an international tour and fulfilling the responsibilities that came with a large production. Privately, however, she was trying to understand the end of a long relationship while remaining present for her daughter and for the people who depended on her professionally.
Daisy joined her mother for part of the tour, becoming an important companion during a period of considerable change. Perry has said that she wanted her daughter to see her pursuing her purpose, even when doing so required resilience. The singer also described Daisy as her companion on the road and shared that the child created drawings backstage, which members of the touring team framed and displayed each day.
That experience gave Perry something steady to focus on while other parts of her life were changing. Motherhood remained central to the way she approached the separation, just as it did for Bloom. Their public remarks since the breakup have consistently returned to the same point: whatever changed between them as a couple, they intended to remain united in their responsibilities as parents.
The former couple had faced periods of separation before, but this time their romantic relationship came to a definitive close after approximately nine years together. Because they had never married, the end of their engagement did not require a divorce, but it still represented the loss of a significant partnership and the future they had once planned.
Perry has since described that chapter as one of the hardest periods of her life. Still, she completed the 91-show tour and has spoken about the experience with a sense of perspective. Rather than minimizing how much the breakup affected her, she has acknowledged the tears, uncertainty and pressure that accompanied it.
Her comments also show that maintaining a friendly co-parenting relationship does not make the end of a romance painless. Perry and Bloom may have handled their separation with mutual respect, but she was still grieving a relationship that had lasted for much of a decade. Continuing to perform night after night did not remove that grief; it simply meant that she had to carry it while the tour moved forward.
Now, with more distance from the breakup, Perry appears able to discuss that period more openly. She and Bloom have begun separate chapters in their personal lives, but their connection through Daisy remains permanent. Their engagement may be over, yet both have made it clear that their family continues in a different form, centered on the daughter they share.
